  Department of Kinesiology Graduate Information

Guidelines for Admission to Graduate Degrees

.Students are admitted in the fall, spring, and summer semesters. 

.Applicants for admission must have an undergraduate major in kinesiology, exercise science, physical education, athletic training, biology, or a related academic discipline. If admission is sought by individuals who do not have these majors, then up to 18 credit hours of prescribed undergraduate course work may be required before admission can be considered. 

.Applicants must have a minimum undergraduate grade point average of 2.75 or 3.00 in the last two years. 

.The Graduate Record Examination (GRE) must be taken prior to applying. A 3.00 undergraduate GPA and a combined score of 1000 is normally expected.

In addition, two letters of reference, a statement of intent and copies of application and transcripts should be sent to the Department of Kinesiology. 
Prospective students should keep personal copies of all data submitted.

The deadline for applying for a graduate assistantship is normally February 1 for Kinesiology Master Degrees (this date is not for Athletic Training Internship Admission)

FAQ's for Graduate Admission

1. What is the letter of intent?
The Letter of intent describes the Applicant's intentions for entering graduate school. For example, an application may want to describe educational and/or career goals, as well as research interests.

2. Are their funded positions offered by the Department of Kinesiology?
Yes, we offer graduate assistanship positions on a competitive basis. Responsibilities of graduate assistants include primarily teaching and graduate research.

3. What the the deadlines for applying for each semester?
The Department of Kinesiology evaluates applicants on a rolling basis and applicants can be accepted into the program for fall, spring and summer semesters. In general, application packets should be completed in full minimally 3 months prior to the semester applied for. If you are applying for a graduate assistantship your application packet needs to be submitted by February 1 for the fall semester and November 1 for the spring semester.
