The Biomechanics Laboratory is housed in the 3000-square-foot Sports Injury Research Center facility on the UNLV campus. Co-Directors, John Mercer, Ph.D. and Janet Dufek, Ph.D., share a research focus on lower extremity function and injury prevention, which fosters a collaborative research environment for faculty and students.
The laboratory also serves as the Center for Disability and Applied Biomechanics research, which is directed by Edward Neumann, Ph.D.
The Biomechanics Laboratory is a fully-equipped laboratory:
Two 8-channel electromyography systems (one tethered, one telemetry)
12-camera 3D motion capture system
dual force platform system with interchangeable platform configurations
32-channel A/D board with BioWare version 4.0 data acquisition software
Isokinetic dynamometer
Accelerometers
Electrogoniometers
Portable instrumented walkway
Portable balance assessment platform
Mechanical impact tester
The laboratory has a 30-meter unobstructed walkway for use during gait assessment as well as portable walkway rails for use in clinical assessments.
